This book study will break down the content areas and components of the literacy continuum, providing participants with the opportunity to investigate, analyze, and unpack the incredible learning this resource has to offer. Regardless of the literacy program being utilized within your building, this learning can be applied immediately within your classroom. Come explore a guided look at the systems of strategic actions and discuss this all-encompassing tool for assessment, planning, and teaching literacy. 

Learning Outcomes:

  • Understand the Continuum and how to navigate the text.  
  • Learn systems of strategic actions to help with literacy. 
  • Understand the importance and how to incorporate interactive read-aloud & literature discussion. 
  • Understand and learn to incorporate shared and performance reading.  
  • Gain an understanding of student expectations for writing about reading.  
  • Understand writing progressions and expectations of learners.  
  • Understand oral & visual communication.  
  • Study phonics, spelling, and word study.  
  • Understand the importance of and how to incorporate guided reading.

Graduate-Level Continuing Education: 

Two continuing education credits are available through MidAmerica Nazarene University at an additional cost of $90 per credit hour.
